Email Requests for website links

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

At the moment people from around the world are sending anyone with a website an email requesting that you give them a link to their website; and the will do the same in return.

If you get one of these emails; our advice is delete it – DON’T reply (that could attract more emails)

Reason why NOT: if you allow this to happen it will likely have a BAD impact on your website ranking with the search engines

This is from Google

“some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the purpose of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site’s ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:

  • Links intended to manipulate PageRank
  • Links to web spammers or bad neighbourhoods on the web
  • Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”)”

You are only after links (think like votes) from and to good websites that you want to support

The email often looks like this

“Hi,

I’m xx xx, Web Marketing Consultant. I’ve greatly enjoyed looking through your site xxx.co.nz and I was wondering if you’d be interested in exchanging links with one of the websites I represent, which has a related subject. I can offer you a HOME PAGE link back from…”

Ipad Released today– will it affect my website?

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Yes! it could well

How will it affect my website?

Well we expect the way people surf the internet to change; now they can sit on their couch and surf the internet on the ipad – yes you can do that on a laptop; but that’s not as easy or comfortable.

This means that you need to ensure your website works on Apples Safari web browser.

It also means that flash parts of a website won’t work – Apple has steadfastly said that it won’t allow flash on its devices.

What is flash – Adobe Flash – is software that runs a lot of the moving graphics on a website, some websites are made entirely of flash (oops)

Time to check your sites then!

How do I do that?

Ask us; we’ll use our ipad to have a look at your website and take a screen shot for you

Email info@mustangservices.co.nz and tell us your website address

What is an ipad?

Have a look http://www.apple.com/nz/ipad/

It’s a device that has been eagerly waited for by thousands of people. Apple has such a following of loyal users.

Higher than forecast sales figures from overseas meant that our release date was delayed until today.
